Accumulating wrinkles

Whenever I watch something on TV or hear some song that is even remotely stressful, depressing, angry, etc. basically anything that isn’t sunshine and lollipops my face scrunches up and then after a while I wonder why my forehead is all stiff and sore.

Best thing I heard all day

—:  back in 2nd grade, before we learned cursive
someone told me what was really teh uppercase Q was the uppercase J
so i believed him and started writing my name in cursive Qimmy

Because you care.

1. I’ve only really had one recurring nightmare… Where my teeth start falling out all of a sudden (you know how when your baby teeth start popping out and get all wobbly?) All the teeth in my mouth turn wobbly and every time I bite down I can feel them wobble and they gradually fall off and eating is hard and scary and I wake up and check to see if I still have teeth. The ortho tells me I grind my teeth in my sleep so maybe that’s why? In any case, I rarely dream, so whatever. … I haven’t had this nightmare in a while it just occurred to me is all, haha.

2. I have three Ikea feather-filled body pillows all over the world (Copenhagen, Hong Kong, Philadelphia). They’re honsetly the best body pillows ever because they’re so dense but not rock hard. Even if I don’t end up using it I still like having it on my bed. I thrive in clutter, I guess, haha.

3. My right foot is bigger than my left foot but my left boob is bigger than my right boob but I’m right handed. I don’t really spot a pattern. My mom said I was outright wrong at first because for some reason she’s convinced that the dominant side is bigger for everything but she’s wrong! Ha! … great.

Um.. anyone notice a pattern? The past two posts are just things I see because they’re right in front of me and I felt like writing it down. Grrrrreat, I know.

4. Green onions here make me cry (like for real, tears running down my face, not just tearing up!) but the onions don’t. Weird right? Danish scallions are vicious.

5. I rearranged my room today. Because I was bored. Plus L is visiting and I need to make space. And my room was just really messy. Not like my usual level of mess — far, far worse. Oh well.

6. My building had a fire alarm test at 9AM this morning. That is correct — 9AM, Friday morning, exam period. Wtf?

Also I can’t really see what I’m typing because I’m watching a laggy episode of SYTYCD and it’s taking up most of my screen because Megavideo is awesome and loads videos really big. So.. if there are a ton of typos.. forgive? Also also, interwebs as of late has been BALLS. I mean usually it’s laggy for a third of the day and that’s not so bad but right now it’s like.. I can’t even chat with people properly. Bah. Maybe this is a sign I should start my paper?

My sleep cycle is out of sync

I went to my friend’s place to make dinner, hang out, and pick up a textbook that I refused to buy yesterday. Well, before we knew it, it was past midnight and the metro doesn’t run that late and I didn’t want to walk the half hour home so I watched Armageddon, American Pie, and American Pie 2 and then bussed home at 7 something. It was So dark. I was watching these little kids presumably walk to school or something at like 720 AM and it was so dark!!!!!! It was so depressing!!! I can’t imagine never seeing the sun because the only time it comes out (if it does) is while you’re in class!!

Darkness prevails! 😦

I turned off the flash because there were people on the street and I felt embarrassed.. haha.

Only the Danes could turn snakes and ladders and trouble into a drinking game.

I don't know what one does with a hangover bag...

I went to shawarma for the first time in a month and had an ice cream bar, yummy! I’m considering taking a nap and then really crunching down to read creative …

Cold and bitter

I am referring to some tea I made HAHA! Don’t I look super angry otherwise? But yes, yum.

Also, yours truly is quite possibly the worst at life ever. So.. I went to the grocery store after my exams and loaded up a cart only to realize I didn’t have my credit card (doh) only then to realize I couldn’t FIND my credit card because it wasn’t in my wallet! I looked seriously everywhere — I even removed my mattress — because I thought I took it out to reload my laundry card. Turns out I never took it out and it was in my jacket pocket… wtf? So I guess my mind makes up memories. It’s kind of weird.

Today I woke up naturally at 720am and it was so dark I thought it was only 5am or something because my alarm hadn’t rung yet and it was dark out but I checked my clock and it was indeed, 720 (my alarm was set for 730). Saddening. I can’t be bothered to do anything atm… it is going to rain for the rest of the week.. so sad…

Tonight I am going over to a different res to make dinner with V because I have to borrow a book from another friend because I’m too cheap to buy it. Check it out — so it’s called a “compendium” and basically it’s a big stack of bound photocopied articles and it costs 80 bucks!!! EIGHTY! I almost bought it because I was like oh, I need it to write a paper, but I really haven’t the heart to buy this when I’m not going to use it again ever. And I have to wait 3, 4 days for them to custom make it. Feh. Not worth it. So.. I’m going to borrow the book overnight and just not sleep and copy out tons of quotes and hopefully it’ll be useful… Good luck to me!

K– yes I did but I don’t remember what it was about. But b***h stewie is so funny hahahaha!

Twas the night before exams

Alright it’s not really night it’s 4pm haha but it sure looks like night outside. I’m watching Family Guy — “I’m gonna name her Analeigh and call her Anal for short!” – Quagmire. Hahahaha…. anyway. I got a pair of 7/8 trousers which I’ve wanted forever and I kind of need them so it’s legit. And I did three loads of laundry, yay. ..I guess I really don’t want to study…

Lalala.. two days before my exam

Why is it that when I try really hard to procrastinate my internet goes all wonky on me?

Also, I am feeling the need for Serious Change and contemplating straight cut bangs even though it would be horribly unflattering. But don’t worry, I’m only toying with the idea.

the end of an era

Last night marked the last night ever at Kulorbar in the foreseeable future and it saddens me. I can still smell the sweet smoke machine air.. stale beer.. cheesy lights (can’t smell those, I will admit).. anyway. By now I am sure you are sick of reading about Kulor. If not, you are probably moronically patient, but I guess that’s why we’re friends, since I talk too much and you must have some way of compensating (or you could be like C and just run a different conversation simultaneously which I hear is rude but in my opinion it works perfectly.)

I ran into two of the Korean girls! Don't remember the name of the girl on the left, but Y on the right lives in my building. Left girl (LG) was kind of swaying on the spot already halfway through her first beer hahaha bless her. So.. Y downed the rest of her beer for her. Same goes for the second beer. LG disappeared really early on in the night, C and I had no clue where she went!

As you can see, I managed to kind of curl my hair without it going all super curly on me. I am making progress! Yes.. this is what happens when I get bored.

Well, yesterday we decided to leave Kulor at 330, 4ish, and we decided we were going to have a hotdog but the hotdog vendor was closed!!! (Sometimes it’s open late at night and charges a buck more but it really hits the spot!) And, the metro wasn’t really running anyway, so we decided to kill time and walked to Norreport, the next train station, and went to the McDonald’s and got two large fries and a cheeseburger 🙂 and the night shift guy was so nice (even though it was just him and 209023525 drunken messy people throwing crap everywhere.. seriously..) and gave us free ketchup!!! 7 packs in total.. that would’ve cost almost 2 bucks.. (sigh, Denmark, why are you so expensive??) I have one packet left that I put on the counter as a reminder that there are still patient people in the world, hahaha. Then when we got to the metro station our train was supposed to arrive (it has a sign telling you when it will come.) For the longest time it said Vanlose.. and then right when there were 3 minutes left it changed to Lufthavnen!!! (That is toward the airport.. opposite direction.) We were so pissed!!! We had to wait an extra ten minutes, and C needed to pee so badly hahaha, bless her. Then when we got on the train.. it decided to be an express train and it didn’t tell us!!! So it went straight from Norreport to the terminal stop (which I’ve never been to, so I guess it was an experience.) So… then we had to go back and I didn’t get home til 5ish (which is when I usually get home post-Kulorbar, but usually I just take the train straight at 430 hahaha.)

By the way, every morning after a night of drinking, hungover or not, I crave orange juice. Water somehow just doesn’t cut it (although I do still drink water.. can’t drink the whole carton of orange juice, that is a little indulgent!) Is it just me? As an extension from this craving for acidity, I had pasta with tomato sauce (the tang of the tomato, you see.) But I was too lazy to go walk to buy tomato sauce.. and I had a ton of fresh tomatoes.. so I made my own tomato sauce! It’s kind of crazy, if you make your own tomato sauce, you only need very little sauce! I couldn’t really see the sauce on my pasta so I added enough so I could see it (because that’s what you usually do with pasta right?) and it was super tomatoey, so I think next time I will only use a little bit of sauce.. I still have half of it left. I used six tomatoes, 4 cloves of garlic, an onion, quite a bit of olive oil, some salt, and of course chilli pepper flakes. So I think per person you only need two tomatoes.

Wholly unrelatedly, I want a pair of cropped trousers. Those really trendy ones that are just a wee bit too short. That I will probably never wear. But want anyway. Just because.

Russian borscht

HK-Western-style-cafe-style is probably one of my favourite soups. And I cooked it today. BOOOOOYAH! Somebody worship at my feet. Do it , do it! Also, an interesting quote I heart (I meant to write heard but the typo stays.. see how warm and fuzzy I am?) today:

“In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” – George Orwell

Does that make me revolutionary? 😉 I am so counter culture hippie underground-y I totally belong in Berlin.

…yeeah.

On Thursday I went to Kulor (duh! aren’t you sick of hearing this by now) but the beer this time was stronger and my stomach was pretty empty so I was a wee bit hungover the next day but no biggie. I was away in Las Palmas and London last week but as I have already uploaded photos onto Facebook I am most disinclined to blog about them so I am not going to do that.. Sorry!

I have a lovely pair of flat over the knee leather boots now that I bought at the Aldo clearance in Camden and they are so warm and so comfortable it is like wearing a pair of super thick and soft and non scratchy perfect snug socks that are made out of leather and lined with suede. I am so warm now! I suck balls at wearing hats but as the weather here is so perpetually dreary I finally succumbed and got one from H&M and sure, I look a bit like a fobby marshmallow while wearing one, but I’ll admit it has its perks.

I also checked out the Jimmy Choo H&M stuff yesterday and even though I didn’t arrive til 2PM there were surprisingly quite a few shoes in stock (including a couple in my size) and loads of clothes and jewellery and bags left. I think people in Denmark aren’t as crazy as they are in North America for Choo. Vot else. (See, this Russian borscht has infused me with an Eastern European aura that is affecting my writing!) Oh, and I ate four crepes today, yummers! They are so easy/fast to make it’s kind of my carbs/dessert of choice and now I never want to buy them when I go out because they seem so overpriced. Before I used to be like oh, they’re worth the price even though it’s a sheet of batter because I can’t make them at home but HA! Now I can!

Ich bin deutsch! …not.

Because I’m on a ferry with nothing better to do and the lights are bright and I’m not sleepy, I will write about my trip. Actually I should be practising Danish so I’ll write as much as I can in Danish.

.. I give up writing in Danish lol. In summary: I went to Kulorbar, had 8.5 beers (C and 8 and was pretty gone haha and didn’t believe we had that many til I showed her the picture proof.. probably one of my better ideas because otherwise I would’ve looked like the crazy drunk one lol!), went home, made ramen and an omelette (homegirl gets hungry ok!), took a nap for an hour, speedily showered, and popped back out at 5:30. Bus to Berlin left at 6:30AM, and a seven-and-a-half-hour bus-and-ferry ride later, I was in Berlin!

Kulorbar

This post wouldn't be complete without a photo from Kulorbar now would it? I save up every week to come here! My favourite club/bar ever. Free beer (and lots of bars to serve it) + reasonable cover + good music + lots of platforms to avoid creeps = BEST. I will miss Kulorbar a lot. It makes clubbing in the US even more lame by comparison (this is *actually fun*! Promise.)

Ferry

View from my ferry window!

Windmills

Wind turbine things from my bus window! It looked cooler in person. (I almost wrote kulor, lol!)

Ghetto

I went from the ZOB (the central bus station) to its respective U-Bahn train station and it was completely deserted, ghetto looking, and empty. I mean it makes for a cool picture but it freaks me the heck out because it was 230 PM on a Friday. Shouldn't there be people around??? And I got harrassed and sworn at by two separate people trying to gyp me and sell me day passes. Not a great start..

Ghetto 2

Yeah, the only thought running through my head was "ghettoooooo...." It's creepier in person with all the graffiti and weeds.

Currywurst

I went to Curry 36 for the currywurst because I read online it's the best. Seems to be true -- it was filled to the brim with locals and I had to wait in line. What is currywurst, you ask? It is a roast sausage with curry and ketchuppy sauce. The ketchup here is really sweet and thick and together it tastes really, really good (although the idea is a little disgusting, I will admit.)

Stationery

Yayyy stationery!

Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie museum! Not that I went in, or anything.

Checkpoint Charlie 2

Yeah um.. when I got here I was like, "That's it?" That was kind of my response to most things. Haha. Well there you are folks.. Checkpoint Charlie.

Douglas

It's official -- Douglas is everywhere. Haha!

Chinese

OMG OMG OMG Chinese food!!! I had delicious Chinese pile-as-much-as-you-can-on-the-plate in the food court at the mall I found at Alexanderplatz and it was inexpensive and run by real Asians = a winner in my books. Tasted good, too! Definitely San Franciscan Panda Express worthy, at least. (Trust me, the "Chinese" in Copenhagen is worse than the Chinese in Middle-of-Nowhere, Canada. It's honestly the worst "Chinese" I've ever had anywhere. This was a godsend!) Notice the amount of greens.. I missed veggies.. I got green beans with chicken, the spiciest black pepper beef I've ever eaten, tempura veggies, some sort of roast crispy pork, noodles, broccoli with beef, and some other stuff I forgot. What a delicious snack!

Hot dog man

Dude, this guy was a one-man hot dog stand. I couldn't figure out how he managed to get the thing to stay in place but he was straddling it. ...that looks dirty so I hope immature kids don't read that sentence. It looked cool though! There was a guy in a wheelchair with a similar device but I didn't want him to think I was gawking at his disability so I didn't take a picture..

IMG_1306

At the recommendation of a real German I tried Berliner Weiße! (The beta thing is a double s.. so it's like edelweiss only.. berlinerweisse.. yes.) It's basically Italian soda but with beer instead and it's actually really good. I met up with A here for dinner since it was almost his birthday 🙂 I love seeing people I know!

Oh and before I proceed.. I realize I neglected to take any pics of Pfefferbett Hostel.. but it is one of the best hostels I have been to and I highly recommend it. It is super bomb and the key is really high tech (it’s magnetic and opens all the doors and lockers that apply to you so it’s really easy to use) and the reception is open 24/7 as is the lobby etc. and you really feel like you’re more in a hotel than a hostel. Recommend!

img_1308

Wow if this isn't the saddest kid's playground ever I don't know what it is. It was covered with weeds and graffiti and the playground items were so strange, like huge emptied barrels and random wooden boards.. I ran into this prior to the consumption of my 900-calorie breakfast at Back Factory which consisted of OJ, pain au chocolat, and butter croissant with nuts and nougat-creme.

img_1309

Train station from the inside.. I don't remember which 😦

IMG_1312

Warschauer Straße station. Nothing particularly exciting, but I figured I should throw in a gratuitous train station pic somewhere.

IMG_1317

I couldn't cross the street fast enough because the lights change so darn fast so I took a pic of what I saw. Yes, surprise, more graffiti!

IMG_1319

East Side Gallery -- a stretch of Berlinian wall for artists to paint/graffiti on.

IMG_1325

Would you stay here??? Haha. Ugliest hostel ever.

IMG_1331

Saddest Universal Music studio ever..

IMG_1333

"I KNOW I AM UGLY BUT I GLOW AT NIGHT"

IMG_1334

Bikes and things..

IMG_1336

The line at Curry 36. It doesn't look impressive, but the line is comparable to Pat and Geno's except longer.

IMG_1337

My second currywurst back at Curry 36! This time with yummy fries that had cajun spice on it. Yum.

IMG_1339

The Brandenburg gate! I was so underwhelmed words can't describe lol. The train doors and everything are plastered (I mean PLASTERED.. kind of like desktop tiling) with images of the Brandenburg gate tilted at various angles and it's so.. not exciting in person hahaha. I expect too much, I guess.

IMG_1343

Funny looking bike taxi thing..

IMG_1345

The Reichstag! Cooler looking than the Branderburg gate in my opinion. But even then not as exciting as some other buildings I've seen.

IMG_1348

I found this much more interesting than the Reichstag itself. Like everything else in Berlin this kind of perplexed me. Right outside the Reichstag there was just this huge expanse of green and tile/stones that extended *really* far out all the way to the water where you could see the Hauptbahnhof. See? This is why I don't like Berlin. I like buildings all next to each other and not random open spaces. If this open space were graffiti-ed, bridge-ed, and ghetto looking, it would sum up my view of Berlin.

IMG_1353

Me by the Reichstag. I didn't take really any pictures with me in it because I just never really liked Berlin all that much lol. If I look pretty beat, it's because I WAS pretty beat, haha.

IMG_1360

BEST 🙂

IMG_1361

Haha!

IMG_1363

This is my favourite picture I took in Berlin. The sun hit the cobblestoned ground and the stones reflected the sun differently so it looked really sparkly and cool. And there are mysterious feet in the background, haha.

IMG_1367

Shh...

IMG_1371

Hi horses!

IMG_1372

If you look back there there is a guy with the weirdest hairstyle ever trying to make out with his girlfriend. He had a rat-tail-not-really crossed with a 'hawk crossed with dreads. He has like.. five dreads sticking out the back of his head at the base but all lined up. Imagine putting the heel of your hand at the base of your head.. each finger is one of his hideous dreads. Ugh. Ugh!!!

IMG_1375

KaDeWe.. the biggest department store in Germany (and one of the biggest in Europe!) I really enjoyed this haha there was a floor dedicated solely to food! They had an American food section where they imported American faves (for expats I presume) at ridiculous prices!

IMG_1380

All the gummy bear flavours in case you've ever wondered (cause I sure have!) Pineapple, orange, raspberry, strawberry (did you know there were two red flavours??? They look almost the same!), lemon, green apple. Oh, these are Haribo gold bears (the best.) These flavours may not apply to substandard generic brand gummy bears.

Anyway on the bus home I sat behind the nastiest PDA-iest couple I have ever seen. I will copy the text transcript between T and I which sums it up quite well.

Me: “HAHA OMG I AM SITTING BEHIND THE COUPLIEST COUPLE EVER AND IT MAKES ME LAUGH AND RETCH SIMULTANEOUSLY. Oh, and the guy sitting across the aisle also laughed.”

T: “Lol that happened 2 me on the plane 2 venice. So funny that the guy laughed as well, lol. How’s Berlin?”

Me: “I’m about to board the ferry back. Seriously they’re like rabbits in heat i have to keep headphones in at all times. Whenever they’re awake he’s kissing her and she’s tangled in his dreadlocks. Also some dude got kicked off the bus :/ police came on for passport control and he wasn’t allowed to travel.”

T: “Wow, talk about a dramatic trip back, lol. Listen 2 some really loud angry music and maybe they’ll get the picture. Cya soon!”

Me: “HAHA that made me laugh out loud. I resorted to pulling out a huge map of berlin so they wouldn’t see me laugh. Definitely changing my seat after the ferry”

T: “Lol that gave me a really funny mental picture 🙂 good luck with ur new seat!”

I did indeed manage to snag a new seat far away from the gross couple post-ferry and it made my life a lot better. Then I got home and ate ramen and shrimp and such. Then today I ate over a pound of soy sauce chicken and a ton of dumplings and cookies. All is right with the world. I MISSED CPH A LOT and I never thought I would say that but I did!!! Ok, that was one of my most time consuming posts ever, I’m so glad it’s over, haha.
